Google has named gone on to name its next version of Android as
Android 4.4 “KitKat” , this is completely different from the name
“keylimePie “ which was going around the rumor mills since a long time .
The company had to say this in a blog post about the reason
naming it KitKat “"As everyone finds it difficult to stay away from
chocolate we decided to name the next version of Android after one of
our favorite chocolate treats."
As we all know Google names each version of android with names of deserts such as :
Android 1.5 –Cupcake
Android 1.6 –Donut
Android 2.0 –Éclair
Android 2.2 –Froyo
Android 2.3 –Gingerbread
Android 3.0 –Honeycomb
Android 4.0 –Ice Cream Sandwich
Android 4.1 - Jelly Bean
Android 4.4 -Kitkat

Since few years HTC is struggling to gain a respectable position in the mobile industry where companies like Samsung and Apple have become the user’s brand of choice .With decreasing sales in North America and Europe, China is a market where HTC has always experienced growth and with the Chinese market flooded with Google and Apple powered devices with whom the Chinese government has gone into bitter relationship since the past few years ,the need for an indigenous mobile operating system just makes sense . The operating system is supposed to have deep integration with applications and services often used by the Chinese people and is slated for launch at the end of 2013 with a china only exclusive release. HTC is trying to meet all the points the Chinese officials want in developing this operating system .Whether this will be a completely new operating system build from scratch or built over android is not known yet.
